Identifying and Moving Clients Along Stages of Change for Health and Wellness
Are you ready to personalize your coaching interventions to support clients in all different stages of readiness?
Health coaches are always looking for ways to better understand and meet their clients where they are that informs how they move clients into action. Prochaska’s Transtheoretical Model provides a framework for identifying what stage of readiness clients are in around their desired lifestyle change. And learning how to listen for the client’s stage of readiness as well as what is likely happening behind the scenes provides coaches with specific coaching interventions that meet clients in 5 distinct stages of change. The framework covered in this workshop will deepen your ability to work with a variety of clients that come into your practice.
- Describe the context behind the Transtheoretical Model and how it supports the practice of health coaches.
- Explore 5 core stages of change readiness including what words the client will likely use in a session, what is happening behind the scenes that is impacting their stage readiness, and what coaching interventions best meet the client in each of the stages.
- Discuss some common coaching scenarios to practice identifying the stage of readiness presentation of clients and offering of coaching interventions to best meet the client.
This course is available as a CEU offering for National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC) for 1 CEU. This CE credit is provided by The Center Within which has been approved by the NBHWC, PAC for the continuing education and training of National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC). CEP Number 100085.
Other holistic professionals will be provided a certificate of completion and encouraged to submit to their governing organizations.

Theresa Nutt is Co-Director in the Masters of Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coaching program at the University of Minnesota. She has a Masters in Human Development with a focus in Corporate Coaching and Training, and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She has a two-year degree in Personal Coaching from Coach University. She currently serves on the ICF (International Coach Federation) Minnesota Board. Theresa has been a nurse since 1995 in a variety of settings and roles. She has been coaching for 18 years in a variety of settings including private practice, corporate individual and group health coaching, and wellness coaching for employees through insurance companies.
